"Greek, Persian, Sanskrit, and Babylonian astrologers agreed that the star group known as Taurus was a bull: Tauros, Tora, Vrisha, Gudanna. The alpha star of Taurus, Alderbaran, was known as the Bull’s Heart. It was traditionally ruled by the planet Venus and the element of earth.
The qualities of Taurus were always eminently bull-like: slow, strong, a lover of routine and order, productive, dependable, usually obedient to authority but uncontrollably violent when enraged. The influence of Venus was supposed to provide an amiable disposition, sensual pleasures, broad friendships, and sometimes excessive materialism. Taurus is said to be quietly supportive under normal conditions.
In addition to Alderbaran, Taurus contains the Pleiades or “Seven Sisters,” which had profound meanings in the ancient religions of Venus-Aphrodite as The Goddess of Wisdom, whose “pearly gates” they tended, and whose
“seven pillars” represented them in the temple."
