The Gift of Scorpio
When working with the star sign Scorpio I find I am always challenged, and "put through the mill", and at the same time I am often rewarded with new insights and a sense of renewal. The scorpion has a sting in the tail and it is associated with the eighth house "The House of Death". Scorpio asks us to step out of our comfort zone and to approach all those things in life that we would rather avoid. It deals with the big issues of birth, death and re-birth.
To unwrap the gift of Scorpio you must move towards what scares you most, rather than avoiding it. Although this is scary, it will also give you the opportunity to free up all that energy that you have been using to side-step and avoid life as it actually is. This truly is warrior work and the reward is freedom.
On this Scorpio page I'd like to look at techniques that have been traditionally used to help us to confront our demons. Also how can we lovingly and compassionately support ourselves on this path?
The unconscious- "From the bound and the hidden a new life can begin."
Pluto- quick eliminative getting rid of action.
Mars- the God of War
The Seed- the gonads- ovaries and testes
Plants- brambles, thistles, nettles, garlic and ginger.
The sexual act- birth, death, and re-birth

This Being Human is a Guest House
This being human is a guest house
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meaness,
Some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Suffering is Not Enough
"Life is filled with suffering, but it is also filled with many wonders, like the blue sky, the sunshine, the eyes of a baby. To suffer is not enough. We must also be in touch with the wonders of life. They are within us and all around us, everywhere, any time.
.......Wherever we are, any time, we have the capacity to enjoy the sunshine, the presence of each other, even the sensation of our breathing. We don't need to go to China to enjoy the blue sky. We don't have to travel into the future to enjoy our breathing. We can be in touch with these things right now. It would be a pity if we are only aware of suffering.
..........Meditation is to be aware of what is going on- in our bodies, in our feelings, in our minds, and in the world. Each day 40,000 children die of hunger. The superpowers now have more than 50,000 nuclear warheads, enough to destroy our planet many times. Yet the sunrise is beautiful, and the rose that bloomed this morning is a miracle. Life is both dreadful and wonderful. To practice meditation is to be in touch with both aspects."

Standing Like a Tree
The Scorpio work of turning to face our fears rather than avoiding them requires alot of stability. "Standing Like a Tree" is a good way to ground yourself.
“Visualize yourself as a tree, with your body as the trunk, your arms as the branches, and your feet extending into roots growing down into the Earth. Visualize your roots branching out into the dark fertile soil, growing around rocks and anchoring you to the Earth, as you draw in her goodness, stability and strength.
Stand with your legs a little apart and your feet firmly on the ground. Place your open hands on your thighs, with your fingers spread, and picture your energy travelling down your legs into the Earth.
Breathe deeply and slowly and make a sighing “Haaaaaaaaaah” with each exhalation. Let energy flow through you to deep in the ground, where it will be cleansed and renewed. With each in-breath picture the energy from the Earth being drawn up into your lungs and filling your body with vitality and strength. This is a circular motion which brings connection and renewal.”
