The Lessons of Capricorn
The rulership of Jupiter gave the previous sign, Sagittarius, the qualities of joviality and expansiveness. Capricorn is ruled over by Saturn, reigning us back in, with its emphasis on limitations and boundaries.
We are deep in the heart of winter and the Goddess reveals herself in her Crone aspect, before being reborn in her maiden aspect in the spring.
There is a pause, as the old year ends, and the new year is yet to begin. So we explore beginnings, endings and the pause. Strengthening our connections with the cycle of Birth, Death and Rebirth. There is a sense that in order to be able to receive new life, love, and inspiration we must allow ourselves to be completely emptied. The pause can be a scary place to be, especially if your default position is keeping busy. There will be times is any life when we feel empty and all used up. Capricorn teaches us, in the words of the Alice Walker poem "My Friend Yeshi":

A Blessing by Stephen Philbrick
Don't try so hard
It comes in a shiver sometimes,
Sometimes in a winter windowpane,
Wild with the unseeable
Frozen there in Ice
This is God Too
"Not a thing" is something.
After the end,
And before the beginning,
Is time, too.
Let it alone, don't try so hard.
This is God, too.
All of you is.
