Aries Yoga Practice: My Teaching Notes
Below are my teaching notes for one of the Aries Yoga practices that I used on my Aries Zodiac Yoga Day. These notes weren't ever intended for publication, rather they were my aide memoire. Unpolished as they are, perhaps they will spark off your own creative juices, and encourage you to have a go at creating your own Aries Yoga practice. To create your own Aries Yoga Practice simply hold the image of the Aries glyph in your mind's eye; then allow the wisdom of your subconscious to guide you through an Aries practice.
Aries is an adrenalised, firey sign, ruled by the planet Mars, the God of war. So opposite is an exercise to ground and stabilise you, and below is the Pacifying Breath which is wonderfully calming.
“Grounding” or “earthing” ourselves is a useful technique to practise before and after any deep inner work or if we feel fearful, rushed or nervous, are in a big crowd or feel out of control at any time.
The simplest way to ground yourself is to breathe slowly and deeply and let your energy drop down to your lower belly and then down into the Earth. Grounding also stops us from becoming depleted. We tap into the unlimited source of energy in the Earth and power flows through us, not out of us, as we draw from the calm vitality of the Earth.
Always begin by connecting to your breath. Breathe in deeply, right into your belly, and empty all the Air from your lungs as you breathe out. Breathe slowly and calmly. As you breathe in, feel the Air revitalizing and energizing you. As you breathe out, see anything you need to let go of dissolving into the Earth.”
